Conventions of a school/college magazine

Conventions of school/college magazine front covers:

  • Bright noticeable images that appeal to a wide audience. The magazines mostly have a picture with a group of people that will appeal to everyone. If the magazine has a picture, for example of a male footballer, the magazine would automatically not appeal to females/those not interested in football. So the magazines appeal to all ages and all groups of people.
  • One main cover line- followed by a list of other features.
  • Simple masthead with name of the school smaller above/below it. The magazines clearly identify (sometimes being the name of the magazine) the name of the school/college.
  • Issue number and year. The magazines have clear issue dates and months, to inform the reader of certain issues or things that may be happening in this particular issue of the magazine.
  • Colour scheme- the magazines all have a background image that is matched by the colours on the front cover. The masthead often matches the colours of the picture as do the coverlines. Sometime the masthead is changed colour per issue to match in with the picture.
